Dirigo 140-
This kayak rates the highest of all the "closed deck" kayaks we have tried. The Dirigo 140 tracks very well, and has the maneuverability to kayak even the tightest, most winding river with ease. The cockpit is roomy, but doesn't make you feel loose or lost in the boat. The elongated shape of the cockpit allows you to take a small child, a dog, or a bunch of cargo with you. The seat is extremely comfortable, and can be adjusted for all paddlers of shapes and sizes. This model also has a handy dry hatch in the back, with an easy to use water tight door. Sharp entry and exit lines make the kayak a smooth paddling boat.
Loon 111-
A great budget choice. Although we don't like to recommend kayaks under 12 feet, this one is an exception. Because the seat is moveable, you are easily able to trim the kayak for changing water terrain. The hull line is strait and entry and exit lines are sharp, the boat tracks well and have good maneuverability.
